Genetic
Toxicology Testing
PBR
is an OECD-GLP compliant Canadian laboratory offering the
full range of genetic toxicology assays. These tests, which
evaluate carcinogenic and mutagenic potency of chemicals,
are required for pharmaceutical products, medical devices,
and agricultural and industrial chemicals prior to their approval
for human and environmental use. We have been providing genotoxicity
services to both public sector and private organizations since
1986. Our clients include firms from the pharmaceutical, chemical
(agricultural and industrial), petrochemical, and biotechnology
industries, as well as Federal and Provincial government agencies.
We
offer a battery of assays recommended by national and international
regulatory agencies such as Health Protection Branch (HPB)
Canada, International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
A typical battery of recommended tests includes:
| Bacterial
reverse Mutation Assays |
In
vitro Mammalian Cytogenetic Tests |
| In

In
vivo Micronucleus Assays |
Rapid Screening Assays for Drug Development
PBR has
developed a series of rapid, cost-effective in vitro screening
assays that can be used to determine the carcinogenic and
mutagenic potential of new pharmaceutical compounds during
the early stages of product development. These assays can
also be applied to determine the cancer suppressing and antimutagenic
properties of nutraceuticals and natural products.
Cytotoxicity
and General Toxicology Testing
For product
safety evaluation, we offer clients a wide range of in vitro
mammalian cytotoxicity assays as well as chronic and acute
general toxicological studies based on bacteria (e.g. the
Microtox test) and higher eukaryotes (e.g. aquatic algae and
terrestrial plants).

Consulting
We offer
toxicological consulting services for the development of pharmaceutical
products. Using structural-activity relationship (SAR) to
predict the toxicity of pure compounds and the company's extensive
experience in toxicology, PBR can assist clients throughout
the product development process.
