Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain molds, which can contaminate cannabis during cultivation, storage, or processing. Health Canada mandates that cannabis products be free of the following harmful mycotoxins:
➔ Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2): Highly toxic and carcinogenic substances produced by Aspergillus species.
➔ Ochratoxin A: A nephrotoxin and possible carcinogen produced by various molds, particularly Aspergillus and Penicillium species.
The maximum allowable limits for mycotoxins are set by Health Canada to prevent exposure to these harmful compounds.
